Why I Write...

What’s your brand’s voice? It’s more than the use of specific words, phrases, or lingo of a target audience. Sure, that’s part of it. But underneath that jargon (or gobbledygook, as I like to call it) should be a genuine voice — one with conviction and a purpose that goes beyond selling. That’s where I come in. My name is Damian, and I am a copywriter and ghostwriter with over 10 years of experience helping brands find their authentic voices. This is my story...

Where It All Began

My love affair with words and the English language started the moment I picked up my first book. Still, to this day, my favorite pastime is picking up a grammar or style book and reading it cover to cover. As far as my passion for copywriting, that was more of a roundabout journey, circling and honing in on a specific direction.

How a Fundraiser Changed Everything

I worked as a maintenance technician (fancy turn of phrase for janitor) for 13 years at a small Catholic church in my neighborhood. While working there, I befriended the priest and several leaders on parish boards. I soon realized they were terrible at messaging, especially for their major fundraiser (responsible for 30% of the annual church budget).

They had a money and obligation focus when it came to fundraising, meaning they talked to parishioners as if they owed the church. This placed them in the realm of debt collectors, and that’s not the tone you want to set in a lower-to-moderate income area.

I took it upon myself to study marketing materials, read up on fundraising strategies, and enroll in a bachelor’s program for business administration. With a decent relationship with church leadership, I was able to schedule a meeting to discuss fundraising and communication strategy, and wouldn’t you know it, they gave me a shot at chairing their major raffle. It was a great success, pulling in more money than ever.

I didn’t improve the raffle by shouting the same “you owe me” messages. I improved it by changing the language and perspective. The raffle campaigns focused on fun, family, and community. The messaging focused on the value the church offered to members’ lives, not on perceived obligations or debts.

My Process

My dedication to every project and assignment is pure and driven. I don’t like to waste time, but I do my homework. I want to understand your brand, its audience, and goals. It’s important for me to see your brand as an individual entity, something with personality. That’s how I write from a creative place and identify (even step into) its character and voice. Following this deep dive into your brand, I will:

  • Research the Assignment: I may use AI tools, such as Gemini or NotebookLM, to give me a starting point, even a basic outline, but then it’s onto accredited sources and materials to expand core ideas and focus.
  • Write and Refine: This is where I get creative and make sure that every sentence oozes with your brand’s personality (whatever that may be). Writing and refining draft after draft is the most time-consuming part of the process.
  • Polish and Deliver: Here, I edit. I cut out fluff or filler that may have snuck into the draft, then I deliver it to you for final approval or revision requests.

The final review and revision process is where collaboration takes the reins. I want you to be happy with the copy. So dig in and don’t be shy. I am open to critiques, as that’s how I learn what works and what doesn’t. I only ask that we are professional and kind in these exchanges. I feel people work better together when they feel appreciated and valued.

The Writer I Am Today

This taste of success only created a deeper hunger for understanding communication and marketing strategy. After receiving my degree, I started freelance ghostwriting positions with small businesses, which put me on the path to becoming the writer I am today.

I’ve now been on this wonderful copywriting and ghostwriting journey for many years, and I am just as eager and enthralled in the experience as ever. My services remain straightforward:

  • SEO Blog and Article Writing
  • Website Copy and Landing Pages
  • Ghostwriting Services (Articles, eBooks, etc.)
  • Newsletters
  • Press Releases

    When I'm Not Writing

I am a simple person. Give me a good book to read or a laptop and let my fingers start tap dancing across the keys, and I’m happy. Beyond that, I’m a big TV buff. I like a simple, little life with my favorite furball, Riley. That said, words are my passion. Helping people communicate clearly and confidently is what gives me purpose.
